While trying to garner support from my group of friends who are mostly dog lovers, to purchase tickets for a charitable night event, I was sad to learn about PASS's reluctance to collaborate with the other NGOs namely, SPCA Sungai Petani, MDDB, MIAR. 4PAWS and PHS to resolve the strays issues.
They have questioned PASS's restraint to kick start the saving of strays when it had already been allocated the land and had received generous donations.
Oh yes, they do understand that there are building by-laws and what not to comply with when building the animal shelter, but could PASS not erect a temporary make shift shelter to house the strays which need immediate care and attention whilst waiting for the council's approval which may take umpteenth months? years?.... and the targeted donation sum of Rm500,000 be met?
As they have cited, the main objectives are to PROVIDE THE STRAYS a better home and keep them free of danger whilst waiting to be adopted and to SPAY/NEUTER THE STRAYS to curb further, the multiplying of strays!
Procrastination may threaten the lives of the VULNERABLE STRAYS and see to the emergence of more pitiful UNWANTED PUPPIES.....
Perhaps PASS has valid reasons which it can share?
I have forwarded to one of the organizers, an email written without malice but only to clear whatever misconception the public who had contributed in one way or another, may harbor.....
For your information, Penang Animal Sanctuary Society was abbreviated as PASS, Saving Our Strays, Penang as SOS, Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better as MDDB, Malaysian Independent Animals Rescue as MIAR, Penang Animals Welfare Society as 4PAWS and Penang Humane Society as PHS.
Whatever I'm writing is not intended to be offensive, so if you should take it personally then too bad, this blog is not for YOU....SORRY!

Nite nite .....my loved one......
Unlike Cannon, he had shown no signs of pain but a pathetic look.... He was almost thirteen years short of 2 months....
He had not been mobile since last Monday and had rejected food.... I was advised to have him euthanized... I decided against it!! No way..not unless he shows signs of sufferings...
His appetite improved within the day after the administration of medication. His cravings for food was normal until this morning....
He had vomited a pool of blood.... Though he had rejected his food and favorite snack, he took to my offer of teriyaki chicken!
The same pathetic look greeted me when I checked on him coming home about six-ish... He refused the chicken I offered... Within minutes of turning my back on him, my maid shouted... He had given a struggle and had defecated and passed on.......
My contractor could only be available tomorrow morning...
Hence, between my maid and I, Baxter found his place next to Cannon within the home ground....

My sun-beaten looks....
Tuinny had, since seen my photos taken in Turkey posted on Facebook, remarked that I appeared dark in all shots captured! Photographs in Scandinavia, Vietnam and Cambodia too!
How can I not be tanned, when time was mostly spent outdoors, sight-seeing, during those trips! It was actually worst while in Turkey.
With the cool climate, hours under the blazing sun, visiting the archeological sites and other places of interests, with barely shades all around, went unnoticed! In fact, my cap and sunglasses were my only shades at most destinations!
Until I stripped off my clothing, did I notice the stark difference in my skin tone! What perturbed me was the dark upper lip which I had never noticed! Viewed at close range, it was as though I had sported a moustache....how unsightly!
It was until I googled checked that I realized it was melasma, a type of brown discoloration due to sun exposure which can be minimized with the application of a sunscreen which I've never practiced!
Whatever, 'the moustache' had since disappeared though I've gotta be prepared for a recurrence with my upcoming trips to Songkhla, Thailand and Kerala, India!....
Though sunbaked, I still feel I look good with the compliments I've received this far from friends and ex-clients I run into. "Hitam manis!" mar....

Cambodia Aug 12-13.....my maid's motherland......
We had a bad start to the day when there was no show of the pre-arranged pick-up from our hotel at 6.45am!
Being a Sunday, even the ticketing office was closed and there was no way anyone could be located!

We were apprehensive as whether to purchase new tickets through the hotel or to wait as advised by the hoteliers.....
We thought about the online prepaid accommodation in Cambodia....
Around eight-ish, a representative , all apologetic over the time mixed-up, came for us.

With the 6 hour ride and an hour held up at the border, it was well past 4 pm when we arrived at Phnom Penh!
Driving past the border, we were amazed to see several casinos lining one side of the road. And I, was quick to draw the conclusion that Cambodia cannot be poor!

However, soon after, it was followed by sore sights....broken down houses, rubbish strewn fields that thirst for water and leaves that hung limply on trees.......

Right until now, am still wondering who patronizes the casinos....

How the locals commute, was terrifying too!
As if being sardine-packed in a van was not enough, there were some more seated on top of the van!!!!
Surely there is every likelihood of them being thrown off with the application of the emergency brakes??!!
Most side streets of Phnom Penh were filthy. Heaps of rubbish at every other corner and child nudity and un-groomed dogs, heart wrenching, a common sight!!!
A walk to Preah Sisobath Boulevard reminded us of our Gurney Drive....
After feasting on the local recommended dishes at a cafe, we went around snapping quick shots before night fell!
The next day, we went to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and....

....the Russian Market in tuk tuks!
I loved the feel of the breeze touching my hair and kissing my face as the tuk tuk rode through the city...a far cry from braving the penetrating sun, walking!
The next day, we would have missed our ride back to Ho Chi Minh, had we not arrived way ahead of the scheduled time!!! As expected, no seats were allocated to us!
It was after quite a hassle that we finally boarded the coach back to Ho Chi Minh.....

Vietnam Aug 10-15, I made the best out of it.......
Cool temperature between 12-19 Celsius, had always the deciding factor in all my planned vacations, as, aside from our slumber, 70 percent of our time will be spent outdoor, sight-seeing!
Unless it is meant to be, I abhor moving around in the heat, perspiring! So when Ca-Ryn suggested visiting Vietnam and Cambodia, I wasn't too keen.
We had actually planned for New Zealand but had shelved the arrangement partly because the climate was too cold and I hadn't fully recovered from my trip to Scandinavia and partly because of the earthquake!
Somehow, I gave in, though fully aware that the other reason holding me back visiting third world countries is the fact that I hate witnessing depressing scenarios...... Vacation is meant to be blissful!!
Whatever, with Ca-Ryn's little read-up knowledge online, we left for Vietnam and Cambodia where communication poses a barrier!!....
Tan Hai Long Hotel sits strategically on Ho Chi Minh City's vibrant entertainment district with adjacent streets catering for shopping stores, delicious restaurants, and entertainment activities. This hotel offers excellent services and deserves strong recommendation!

The Reunification Palace, the Independent Palace, the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the old Saigon Post Office were all within walking distance!
A cab ride to the War Remnants Museum brought about history which caught my unheard of interest... though greatly saddened by it......
We visited the Cai Be Floating Market on a motor boat and.....
idiotically went on a rowing sampan under the blazing sun, something I definitely would not have done in Malaysia!
We cruised along Vinh Long into upper Mekong Delta to a village for lunch and a biking experience.
Having laid off the bicycles for decades, I was a bit fearful that I might fall off the vehicle and into the river as I pedaled along the narrow bumpy pathway! And, oh my! the brakes did not work!!!
Relief overcame me when the ride was over. It struck me that I could have faced mishaps just because I didn't want to disappoint Ca-Ryn who was so excited over the biking arrangement!
Towards evening, strolling along Le Lai street in search of food, we were amazed to see large crowds in the park amidst a bustling city! It seemed as though the park was the only venue for these people, mostly locals, engaging in physical exercises of various forms!

There were several groups footballing, ladies doing the aerobic workouts, the elderly stretching and the youthful brisk walking!
Apparently, they seemed pretty health conscious! But then again, wouldn't sniffing in the carbon monoxide emitted by the vehicles be hazardous?
Then, there were the toddlers scampering about as they were fed their dinners!
The following day, before we packed for home, we went to the famous Ben Thanh Market for cashew nuts and..... the lotus seeds, which was partly what that brought about my trip to Vietnam!!
Costly huh?...the LOTUS SEEDS??
