Sometime late July or early August, at the Penang Kelawei Road branch, assisted by a male staff, I, upon Leslie's advice, applied for a UOB one card, which promises 5% cash rebate on petrol .....2% rebate on groceries.......
Having spoken to a representative of the card center, the guy thrust the phone to me as the lady had wanted verification of my personal details. After which, I was advised not to cancel the current platinum card in my possession until the points are redeemed for a gift, while she will process and have the new card forwarded in two weeks. Leslie is right. It is indeed, hassle free or so I thought!!!
I procrastinated filling my Camry which went dry, and, my trip to the drugstore for supplements etc while I waited day after day for arrival of the card! Crazy of me, ya, over the 5% and 2%? Still yet, that's MONEY!
By the 3rd week of August, I called the card center to check the status of my application and what the deuce! to be told that there is no record whatsoever! When asked who I spoke to, I couldn't offer a name since everything was executed at the bank itself, I had assumed everything would be in order, thereby did not bother to request for her name!! Miss Inshira then promised to look into the matter. The following day or so, I called Inshira again, to be told that she would get back to me by end of the week. S..t..i.l.l looking into the matter???!
At the branch, still fuming over my earlier exchange of words with Inshira, I aired my annoyance, not intentionally though. Assistant Vice President Service Manager, Miss Saraswathi, happened to be there. Sara's immediate response of e-mailing my complaint to the CCM?? Credit Card Manager??? I suppose some heavyweight??, was overwhelming!!
Sadly, it took Sara's persistent reminders before a what?? Mr Johan? finally called up this morning 11.47am, with me narrating my grouses and he sympathizing and promising that he would instruct someone to call me for further action. Call me again? For further action?
Having resigned to giving up on the MISERABLE CARD, I couldn't be bothered to register the name of this lady, who called at 16.25pm, requesting to fax an application form to be furnished and faxed back complete with a copy of my identity card! What the hell for when there was sufficient data with my current card.
"Sorry, no facsimile machine! E-mail address? Sorry, I'm computer illiterate. To mail by post? And again to be told not having received my application??? Forget I ever applied!!!"
Gosh! Seems they would rather solicit new clientele which may end up being defaulters?? than maintaining existing clients with proven sound records!!
