Amazing!

Due to viral attack, it was not until yesterday that I was able to check all my mails. Many questioned our canine friends' comprehension of mankind's intelligence! Without a doubt, they do understand, failing which, how can they be trained to even come, down, sit, stay, attack... perform tasks of herding cattle, tracking down drug trails etc so to speak.

There was a big CRY over the INHUMANE TREATMENT of a poodle recently, acts of which we abhor and sadly not able to curb....pain inflicted onto pets by owners through their own IGNORANCE of proper guidance!! If only all these culprits can be brought to justice.....
Watch this video e-mailed by Anne (Jingles's owner) and witness for yourself the fruitful Accomplishment of a FANTASTIC trainer!!!

Observe the joyous interaction between master and dogs. What fascinates me is the formation of the bee-line and the locking of a bridge by two dogs for the other dogs to leap over, and how they automatically come together again when they broke their grip!

You will notice too, how the dogs dart for their treats.... like I had stressed in my first blog that ............ it's the TREATS that does the TRICKS!!

Am I BORED?

Frankly, no. Many were hoping that I am merely taking a break and would be back into business soon! Some even suggested I groom their loved ones in my HOME....

This question and the why? why? why? surfaced each time I answered a phone call. Reiterating my reasons, I sounded exactly like a TAPE RECORDER!
Toying with Ca-Ryn's iPad, reading, tending to my furry kids and my home, literally EAT up my TIME allowing no opportunity to even brood .....

I can't imagine anyone being bored! There surely must be something of interest in one's life. It was one of these enthusiasms that spurred me venturing into the business which have since been dissolved due to stressful procurement of helpers being one of the reasons!!

The adaptable person I am, I never know what boredom is! Bored, I'm definitely not but...missing the $$$$$$$ YES!! Lui bin, ya? .....sigh...

Glad I made the decision!

I could hear the incessant barking of a dog when Becca called five-ish yesterday. It was Yuyu (poodle), a boarder, and was not surprised when Becca mentioned that its owner is hoping for someone to adopt the dog!

When my kids were young, the drumming on the table with their fingers, pens or anything at all, was enough to infuriate me! My sharp "STOP IT!" never failed to bring about an instant halt to their action......

I don't mind cleaning up the defecation in the absence of a helper....I don't mind the long hours, I enjoy grooming the furry kids....I love simply being around the dogs and everything about my business BUT I JUST DETEST the BARKING which drove me up the wall!!!

Split ends of canes were tell-tale signs of these canes' forceful landing on tables, chairs, cages, fences, just about anywhere but the DOGS to hush them up and in some stubborn cases to no avail!!

AND, as if it was not enough to TEST my PATIENCE, amidst the INCREDIBLY THUNDEROUS BARKING, there were the IDIOTS (pardon me) standing at the doorway, while I was at the other end of the shop, asking for HEAVEN KNOWS WHAT!!!! These fools probably thought I may have BIONIC EARS which I unfortunately don't and even if blessed with BIONIC EYES, I don't LIP READ!!!...all I could focus on were, their HATEFUL mouths OPENING and SHUTTING like goldfishes gasping for air in the aquarium!! To such people, unless they walked up to me, I, fuming inwardly, would just proceed with whatever chore I was doing and ignore them completely.

There was this soft spoken lady who used to advise me to STAY COOL amidst the deafening barking and it was not until she was at the shop to help out that she knew she was talking through her hat!!! Just within hours, she was SCREAMING at a dog she was trying to hush up and would have caned the poor barker had I not warned her against it!!

To state that I have no regrets giving up the place is a lie, however, though the above scenario was not the deciding factor, I am glad I made the decision........

How lucky she is!

"YIPPEE!!....." Ca-Ryn squealed in delight! Uncle Leslie has just gotten her, last night, a new TOY.....a 64gb iPad!!! costing rm2,149! Al-wyn had insisted on getting me one when he was back during CNY hols, but I declined, stating the frustration of having to adapt to a new gadget, an excuse!

Haha, the country bumpkin I am, am now BLOGGING while enjoying EXPLORING the use of this equipment! Am still fumbling over usage of keyboard and all, and occasionally irritating Ca-Ryn who is still sleeping, with ".....how come I can't ..." "what should I do ...." "why..." bla bla...and at this juncture still wondering how to upload pictures!

Ca-Ryn, I will trouble no more LEST I'll be faced with the wrath of a RABBIT! (she's born in the year of rabbit). Looks like I will still have to depend on my faithful pc for further uploads! So, what's the point of acquiring an iPad! It's not that user friendly after all!!!

My darling smiling through her iPad! (Photo taken in Beijing) How sweeeet and lovely she is! That's my daughter!! NG CA-RYN!!

Bundles of joy!!

A fortnight prior to 01/02/11, I called Teng Teng, to be informed that, just a day before, Ah Bee ( a cross, not featured here), Sweetie and Peddy went missing when her maid opened the door to accept delivery of a gas cylinder!! She sounded so down and miserable that my heart went out to her!
Posters and banners offering rewards have been put up for their safe return!

One week later, Teng Teng brought all, Ah Bee and Sweetie have since been returned, minus Peddy to be groomed for the Chinese New Year and this morning Peddy was returned!! They have apparently wandered from their home in Jalan Lim Lean Teng to the Methodist Boys' School! Swift action taken by Teng Teng to put up banners and all.... and the kind Samaritans who reunited the darlings and yet refused the rewards offered, saw to the JOYFUL REUNION!!

Since puppies, this family never missed out on their weekly bath at the pet shop be it rain or shine! I literally watched them growing from tiny fur balls into handsome adults ! Save for Barney who needs firm handling, the rest are very responsive in nature. Anna, Becca's sister cum assistant had problem reaching out for Bebe though!

From left: Lady * Prince * Princess * Mama Angel * Rocky * Papa Lucky!

Every household must have one....and, in this case, Lucky is the difficult one...who takes to nobody but me! They were regular lodgers at my shop then!

Bidding farewell to them brought tears to my eyes. As their mummy reiterated, pet shops are aplenty but to find one whom she can entrust to watch over her darlings in her absence is not EASY!
Thank you and all, for making special trips to the pet shop to display your APPRECIATION... thank you, I will surely miss you..... take care ........

Snuggle vs Rebecca!

Saw how unfriendly this little adorable canine can be when approached by Rebecca? Strange that a mere hello from Rebecca should warrant such animosity from her! Apparently, being around for 2 months is still not long enough for Becca to win Snuggle's trust over! In fact, she has already mellowed down by the time she was filmed! Otherwise you would have witnessed her ferocious snarls...an action....her mom claimed never to have seen!!

I hope by now, defensive Snuggle takes to Becca without resistance. Snuggle, you had better be a good girl, ya? Muaks from Auntie Leena!

My successor deserves a chance!

"Leena! Sure you're not operating anymore?" Button's daddy (sorry, all owners are registered by their pets' names in my list!) lamented in despair! "Something wrong with Button?" I felt concerned. I was actually having a nap when he called. It has been nothing but food and sleep (making up for all the sleep lost while at work!) all day since quiting.

Button's daddy went on to complain about ho badly infested Button is with ticks, something he never picked up when boarded under my care. He felt my successor is not experienced enough to see to the sanitation of the kennels and sought recommendation of another pet shop! We spoke for a full 20 minutes before he let me off after promising to look into his complaint!

Since informed of the handover of my business, many of my regulars protested, expressing disappointment. Many who came from as far as Perlis, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, Kulim, Sungai Petani, Butterworth and, others, competitively nearer, within the island, expressed that they won't be patronising the pet shop anymore....that they travelled the distance all these years just to SUPPORT ME!!

I felt TOUCHED, that there is RECOGNITION of the DEDICATION I put into serving and caring for the four legged furry kids all these years..... I FEEL deeply honoured and flattered too that most of you prefer having me around to serve you, and, it IS with a heavy heart that I gave up my flourishing business built up from nothing, save for my passion for these innocent canine....... With my exit, owners of the more aggressive dogs are now caught in a dilemma..... my successor will not be attending to them for fear of being bitten! My last day at the pet shop saw me telling 4 disappointed owners to seek grooming services elsewhere!

To all who have complained, whether it be about grooming, boarding or whatever services since my absence, please give Rebecca a chance to prove herself. As I have advised Button's daddy.... do set your prejudice aside to enable fair assessment of my successor! Though relatively new to the industry, I trust she will be able to deliver her best, especially, having been guided by me, 3 months prior to the handover. Ahem, I know I'm GOOD but I believe given time, she'll be just as good if not better!! Prove yourself, Becca!!

Hurray! I'm richer by Rm19,xxx

"Hand you the cheque or bank into your account?" asked Kim, my sis-in-law, my husband's sister, awhile ago. "How much?" "Rm19,xxx and another list of items yet to be accounted for since I don't know the cost." replied Kim. "What?!! Stop kidding!!" I demanded. "Serious." insisted Kim.

Little did I realize that, items her husband took from my shop could have accumulated to so much over the years! He never bothered to list since I told him it's not necessary and I never bothered to keep track! That's the kind of trust we have between us and also the kind of trust which led to the stealing of my cash etc by my maids last year!!

I guess from now on, there won't be any more such tale to share. The wrapping-up of my lucrative business on 01/02/11 leaves me with no money to be careless about!! sigh......

If there's a will, there's always a way!

"Mom, my girlfriend Shirley is in the news, Utusan Melayu ....." hailed Al-Wyn from KL. That was Sunday 06/02/11, and at the news-stand, while at Queensbay Mall, Ca-Ryn picked up a copy of the Malay newspapers.

Slimmed down by 6kg in 15 days! That's great achievement but a definite no no for me! Imagining myself on a full fluid diet for 10 days??!!

Even as I'm blogging now, I'm snacking on the cashew nuts, right after a bowl of laksa and curry mee!!

Anyone out there keen on the challenge? Zoom into the small print for Shirley's slimming success!!

If there's a will, there's always a way!

71.5kg! I couldn't believe my eyes!.... bullshit!...I expected it! Not having to toil around the pet shop, since giving it up on 01/02/2011, and with all the sumptuous meals and Chinese new year goodies, how can I not be expanding width wise??!

To a certain extent, my sis-in-law, Kim, operator of Sugar-Rae Pet Village contributed to my weight gain! Aha...I know...bad..to load the blame for glutting my own appetite, on another! I was 59kg when I started Poochville Pet Centre, July 2004. To make up for not paying a fee for grooming and pet care guidance, Kim, I suppose, felt obligated to bring lots and lots of foodstuff on her weekly trips to my pet shop for one whole year. Thereafter, whole month of September 2006 (after she resigned from her job) while preparing for her set-up in November. Having a sweet tooth, I could never resist all the cheesy buttery cakes, pastries and exceedingly sweet desserts she brought me and hence kick-started my SNACKING INDULGENCE!!

My weight has since been see-sawing till what I am now, size L, rapidly escalating (without a doubt) to XL if I am not able to apply the brakes NOW!! HELP ME PLEASE!!

Queer, that my will power should fail me when it comes to FOOD! My sis Tuinny, once shared this joke..."Plaster your mouth after breakfast daily." advised her company doctor when she asked about weight management!!

I salute to Adelyn for her perseverance to trim her figure down from 107.5kg to what she is now, 61kg. Josh, her worldly darling American cocker spaniel too, is on the diet regime so he can fit into his pricey tailor-made clothing!

Congratulations!

7.30am .... Half way through having my bladder eased, the door chime sounded.....oh yeah, my darling leaving for his home in KL! I scurried down the stairs to a closed door....I opened the door to find my son's car gone...my face drowned in tears, how could he have left without my bearish hug?.... Just then, my hubby came from the back of the house.

Amidst tears, I chided him for not waking me up to send Al-Wyn off. He was quick to mumble his apologies..... I darted up the stairs... Ca-Ryn upon hearing my sobs, hugged me, and as one would console a two year old, murmured.... "Miss kor-kor? Don't worry, I'll bring you to see him..." ....and, with that, she went into her deep slumber again..

Then... the good news via a text message! 9.26am...Money has delivered 2 puppies! Diana must be so overwhelmed with sending messages and calling that I couldn't call through to congratulate her!

Money (schnauzer) and Po Cai (poodle) are regular boarders at Poochville, their second home! I miss them awfully.
